Live Event: Spinning Dot Theatre

What: Recognized as one of the country’s top new Children’s Theatre Companies in 2018 (by the American Alliance for Theatre and Education), this terrific Ann Arbor-based group performs global stories that illuminate big ideas that connect audiences of all ages to a dazzling range of emotions exploring what it means to be fully alive.
Spinning Dot will perform “This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing,” a modern-day fairytale for the whole family (recommended for ages 6 and up). Written by Australian playwright Finegan Kruckemeyer, this play features three young sisters who are left in a forest by their woodcutter father and forced to find their own way in the world. From this fairytale beginning, three resolutions are made–one sister walks one way to find purpose, the other to find adventure, and the third stays right where she is to create a home. Years later, having circumnavigated the globe and fought vikings, crossed oceans, tamed wilds, and achieved greatness, the three sisters meet again, as women. As part of the performance, camper families are invited to create shadow puppets with the actors. Families who register before Feb. 14 will be sent materials for the workshop. If you miss the deadline, we have provided a list of household items below.
