Young Adult Meetups

These virtual meetups are an opportunity for former North Star Reach campers ages 18-24 to connect with peers in small online gathering spaces. All groups meet under the guidance of North Star Reach facilitators.

These are small groups and all members are asked to commit to regular attendance at the 60-minute sessions, which will meet every other week starting in early January and running through April. Information, as well as what is shared, is kept strictly confidential. We realize conflicts come up and participants may not be able to attend all sessions. But we appreciate members committing to regular attendance for the benefit of creating a more close-knit community.

The benefits of participating in the meetup group include:

  • Gain a sense of belonging while decreasing feelings of isolation that young adults who live with serious illnesses often experience
  • Share triumphs and challenges of young adulthood
  • Develop friendships and social connections with peers
  • Opportunity to share experiences with others who have had a similar journey

Mike “Coach” Parker is a graduate of University of Michigan-Dearborn and a long-time North Star Reach volunteer.

Program Consent

I hereby release, discharge and otherwise indemnify North Star Reach, its affiliated organizations and sponsors, its officers, directors, employees, volunteers and agents (the “Camp Parties”) against any claim by me or any family caregiver as a result of our participation in any program or activity sponsored, coordinated, or supervised by North Star Reach. *

Photo / Media Consent

In the interest of respecting the privacy of other young adult meetup members, I agree not to take screenshots or to record in any manner of online programming, including zoom gatherings, breakout rooms or comment areas. *

Communication Policy Consent

As part of our policies and procedures, we do not allow staff or volunteers to communicate with young adult meetup participants via various social media sites, email, mobile phones and mail outside of official programs. Our staff and volunteers participate in an extensive screening, selection and training processes and are supervised by our support team during camp and virtual programs to ensure their behavior is professional and appropriate at all times. We cannot take responsibility for their behavior once camp or a meetup has ended. *
