An Authentic Community of Support

Families who care for children with complex medical needs are especially vulnerable during these uncertain times. To help ease the sense of isolation and stress camper parents and caregivers are facing, we’re offering ongoing special content and supportive resources.

Delivered in new ways, these initiatives are intended to offer hope, improved well-being and meaningful connections with other parents and caregivers on a similar journey.

Creating Generous Spaces for Connection

“Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen.” – Researcher & author, Brené Brown

Despite the transition from offering on-site to virtual programming due to the Covid-19 pandemic, our goals—connecting and supporting our camper families, inspiring hope through storytelling and positive experiences—are as vital as ever. Whether in person or online, our experienced team offers parents and caregivers the chance to connect in respectful and caring spaces.

Fall Family Camp Weekend Programs

These virtual weekend programs bring together families caring for children with serious health challenges to share in community building and memory-making fun. Apply to Family Camp.

Parent & Caregiver Support Groups

Led by a trained facilitator, these support groups meet regularly throughout the fall. Open to parents and caregivers of children with serious illnesses. Space is limited. Reserve a spot today.

Camper Meetup Groups

Virtual meetups give our campers, who are between the ages of 7 and 17, a chance to connect with peers in small online gathering spaces throughout the fall. Space is limited. Reserve a spot today.

Family Care Conference

This two-day virtual conference (Oct. 7 & 8) will offer caregivers a thoughtfully-crafted program of presentations by leading medical, mental health and wellness professionals. Program schedule and online registration available Sept. 24. To put your name on the early registration list, email Ami Walsh at ami@northstarreach.org.

Parents Helping Parents Podcast

If you are a parent of a child with a serious illness, we hope our podcast becomes a place of support for you. Co-hosted by North Star Reach’s Patrick Smith and Mary Ann Fithian, you can hear “Love the Mooseness” episodes here.

A Healing Place

While we will be hosting our programs virtually this year, we will continue to offer intentional, community-building programs to our camper families, always free of charge. Listen to parents share their family camp experiences in the video below.
