Camp FAQs

What is Camp-at-Home?

Our camp-at-home programming our alternative summer and family camp experience. While we’re unable to gather together at camp, participants will still be able to connect with others facing similar medical challenges and build community all right here, on our camp-at-home website. Our registered campers receive VIP Camp Care Packages prior to their virtual sessions and can access special pages to connect in private spaces.

Who qualifies for Family Camp-at-Home programming?

Our Family Camp programs are all “General Sessions,” which means they are open to families with a child who has any serious medical diagnosis. To be eligible, the child who has a serious health challenge must be 17 years old or younger (infants are welcome). In addition, the medical diagnosis associated with each session places a focus on specific medical populations, allowing families to connect with others on a similar medical journey.

How do I register my family for a Family Camp-at-Home weekend session?

To register your family for a weekend of camp fun at home, please fill out our short form here. If you are a new camper family or have any questions: please email campers@northstarreach.org or call Jessica at 734.680.8747.

Who can participate in the Family Camp-at-Home weekend sessions?

Family Camp is for the entire family! This is a weekend designed to bring your family together for a weekend of fun, connecting with other families across the Great Lakes Region. We ask that you register only two Parent/Caregivers; however, if you have more than two, please reach out to us by emailing campers@northstarreach.org or giving our team a call at 734.680.8747. New camp families are welcome!

How much do Family Camps cost?

As always, ALL programs provided by North Star Reach are FREE of charge to our families, thanks to the generosity of an amazing community of North Star Reach donors.

What does a typical Family Camp-at-Home weekend look like?

Aside from the fun, our Family Camp programs are designed to build relationships with and receive support from other families who understand what it means to raise children with serious health challenges. Families who registered by the application deadline receive a VIP Camp Care Package with t-shirts for all participants, activity supplies, and other surprises. We kick off our weekend with a LIVE Opening Campfire on Zoom on Friday night followed by a full day of camp fun on Saturday, including LIVE programming in the morning on Zoom (featuring the ever popular Parent Connect session led by our Camping Director, Patrick Smith), camp clubs, and much more.

What program activities will our family participate in?

While we can’t gather together in the woods overlooking Patterson Lake this fall, our virtual camp experiences aim to deliver the same opportunities for kids and family members to create lasting memories and friendships. And, yes, the same feeling of mooseness. During the weekend, your family will come together to participate in many of our camp activities like arts and crafts, music and drama, themed-game show challenges, and more!

Who created Camp-at-Home programming and who is running it?

We’re so proud to connect our campers and visitors to experienced staff members and incredible volunteers. Check out Our Team page and see the big cast of friendly and familiar camp faces who are working behind the scenes, and in front of the camera, to deliver a quality camp-at-home experience! All our programming is made possible thanks to generous gifts from hundreds of donors. If you are interested in supporting camp with a donation, please visit our Donate page on www.northstarreach.org/support.

Tell me more about the digital camp code and expectations.

At our physical camp in Pinckney, we have a five-finger code of values. Those same values apply here, although they look a little different! Learn more about our Digital Camp Code by watching this video.
